FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

From Monday 14 August 2006 the Federal Government will provide grants for the purchase of an LPG vehicle or the conversion of a vehicle to run on LPG.

The grants include the following:

To be eligible the vehicle must be for private use (not for commercial or business use) and:

These grants will be available for a period of 8 years, so there is plenty of time to get LPG for your vehicle.

You will need to pay for the purchase or conversion first and then claim back the grant from either a Centrelink or Medicare office.

Applications can be submitted from 1 October 2006 and you will need a receipt for the installation or purchase showing a payment date of 14 Aug 2006 or later.

Application forms will be available in early September from Centrelink and Medicare locations and via the AusIndustry web site.

If you reside in Western Australia and your vehicle is privately owned, you may also qualify for the Western Australian State Government rebate. Both rebates added together provide a maximum rebate of $3000 to convert your vehicle to operate on LPG. Given that your conversion may not cost $3000, you may actually make money by converting to operate on LPG.
